What did the G.I. Bill of 1944 do?

Officially known as the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, the G.I. Bill gave a variety of benefits to World War II veterans.

The benefits included medical care in veterans’ hospitals, low interest mortgages, grants for higher education, unemployment compensation, and vocational rehabilitation.
