How many parolees commit crimes while on parole?

A 1979 New York study revealed that only 3.4 percent of state parolees were returned to prison for committing new crimes.

8.5 percent were returned for parole violations.

Thirty percent of ex-prisoners, however, were sent back to prison within five years of their release.
