When did the military practice of camouflage come into more general use?

By Pamela Landy

Use of camouflage became standard practice in World War I.

This was when airplanes were used to reconnoiter enemy encampments and to direct artillery fire.

Armies found it necessary to camouflage uniforms, helmets, and equipment with the colors of leaves and brush.
