The score of years described by Jane Addams in Twenty Years at Hull-House began in 1889 when Addams (1860-1935) and her friend Ellen Starr moved into an old mansion in a poor neighborhood of Chicago.
Hull-House became a center for social and political activism.
In 1910, Addams published her autobiography, Twenty Years at Hull-House.
She remained at the settlement until the end of her life.
